Introduction to Underwater Photography

The aim of this course is to enable you to take good quality professional shots using an automatic digital compact camera that you can keep forever and impress your friends with.

This course is ideal if you have just purchased or are planning to purchase a new camera and underwater housing unit. If you haven’t decided which camera to purchase then we would be happy to offer you some advice.

The course is conducted by Hannah Glenton, a PADI Divemaster who has worked in Australia and travelled around the world following her passion for diving. After graduating in cultural and media studies at The University of West England, Hannah received her professionally training while employed at the Discovery Channel, Picture Canning Company and RDF media.

You can choose the 1 day or 2 day course:

Day 1

1. Types of digital camera

2. How to care for your camera and housing

3. Add colour to your pictures – how to adjust your white balance

4. Correct brightness – what exposure do you need?

5. What and how to take pictures of – angles, proximity and movement

6. Control your buoyancy

7. Don’t forget to breath

8. Rule of thirds

9. Macro and micro photography

10. Taking pictures of people – stop those faces being obscured by bubbles

11. How to shoot wrecks

12. Taking shots at night

The course is conducted in the warmth of a pool but prepares you for when you hit the open ocean!

Day 2

The 2nd part of the courses shows you how to make your shots look professional by adjusting colour balances, contrast and retouching those blemishes:

1. Adjusting mid-tones, contrast and colours

2. Basic guide to retouching using photoshop

This portion is conducted in the classroom.
